How to Not Suck at Twitter Chats + #PostGradChat Recap

TWITTER

Last night was the first #PostGradChat and it was awesome and a little scary. I wasn't sure what to expect and if I would be able to run a chat successfully, but I did it. Now I am going to teach you how to not suck at Twitter chats and give you a #postgradchat recap.

How To Not Suck
Asks engaging questions
This one goes people hosting chats and those participating. Creating dialogue is important in terms of building relationships and creating a following. You have to engage with your followers and other twitter chat participants.

Chat with other users
I touched on this one a little bit above, but I cannot stress how important it is to chat with other users involved in the chat. Twitter chats are one of the easiest ways to speak with influencers and get free advice. Stalk your favorite influencers and see where they are socially, what chats they are hosting and which chats they are participating in. Don't sleep on free advice + the chance to connect with someone that you admire.

Be honest
All I ever asked you is keep it 8 more than 92 with me, 100. *Drizzy voice

Target a specific group of participants
I sucked at this last night. I wanted current college students and recent graduates to participate, but a ton of my friends thought that the chat was only for grads. The name is a little misleading, so now I know to tell my followers that the chat is open to anyone and how to participate. I made the mistake of thinking everyone knew how to participate in chats. I'm excited to teach about twitter chats and tweak #postgradchat.

#PostGradChat Recap

  1. College students are overwhelmed with figuring out what to do post grad
  2. Most people fear that college was a waste of time
  3. The uncertainty of the future is scary

Now I will use this information to create posts surrounding these topics and guiding college students to success. I get it that college is overwhelming and it's scary to think that you have to have it all figured out. Everyone expects you to know your entire life once you graduate when quite frankly, you just want to stop writing papers. What will you miss about college?
