Post Grad Life: 10 Months

How life is playing out 10 months after college

It has been exactly 10 months since my road to graduation ended and I walked across the stage as a University of Missouri first-generation college student. I never imagined that I would be working at my dream job, sticking to being natural, living with my grandfather or that Donald Trump would be running for President. Life has an interesting way of playing out. Look at your current situation and compare it to 10 months ago, is it what you expected? Keep scrolling to read about my life 10 months after graduation!

What's New
I joined the gym and I've been going consistently for the last 2 weeks. My goal is to have my body back in shape within a couple of months. My motivation is looking at where my muscles used to be and the desire to have them back. I honestly can't wait to wear my bikini again this summer. I am making changes in my diet as well. In fact, I've challenged myself to not eat out or shop for clothes/shoes for the next 2 weeks. Day one is over and I'm feeling optimistic. Wish me luck! The reason I've set this goal is to challenge myself to have self-control and to stop wasting money!

Employment
.... I have a big girl job. God is so crazy faithful. I will share my story later, but the most important thing to note is that what God has for you is for you. Seizing opportunity can make way for you if you let it. Read how I slayed day one at an ad agency here.

Housing
I'm still living with my gramps. I don't really have a plan for leaving anytime soon. My goal is to save $1,000 in my emergency fund while paying off my credit cards (less than $2k left), then focus on saving for a new place. Honestly, if you can move back home and live rent free then go for it. I have extra money to save or play with it and I don't have to worry about living alone, it's pretty sweet. I'm thankful for the opportunity to live with my always giving advice, cancer surviving grandfather.

Debt
Last month's debt: $38k
Current debt: SAME
I didn't do what I said I would do with my money. Sigh. I wasted a lost of money on eating out and shopping. Clearly, I have a problem which is why the next 2 weeks is crucial. I will not fail at getting out of debt. I will have self-control over my finances. These are phrases that I have to repeat to myself. If you want something, you can have it if you're willing to work for it.

Lifestyle
I joined both the worship and media ministry at my church. I want to be a part of the great things happening at my church and to share my gifts. These days, my body is still adjusting to working full-time and going to the gym, but so far so good. I am learning the power of no and becoming more assure of myself. Life after college has only proven that I am not super woman and I need to give myself grace. Does anyone else find it hard to extend grace to their self? Oh yeah, I got a full-body massage (thanks mommy) and this week is KC Fashion Week!

Goals
Last month's goals:
Pay off Dillard's credit card ✔
Make a student loan payment = NOT YET

This month's goals:
Pay down personal credit balance to $500
Start passive income with ebook focusing on life after college
Finish reading every book that I started at the beginning of the year

That's all folks! I hope that this post was helpful + insightful. My post grad life has been such a fulfilling journey. I'm learning to be alone and how to set boundaries with the people that I care about. Sometimes a sistah just needs a break from everything and everybody. I plan to make that full-body session a monthly thing. I actually fell asleep during the massage.
